The 24th Annual HSMAI Frank W. Berkman Chapter Awards program was presented at the Leadership Forum and recognizes the "Best-of-the-Best" in chapter practices from over 78 entries (the largest amount to date) from 19 chapters across the Americas. Competition for the 2003 calendar year awarded winners in nine categories, recognizing both large and small chapters. Through your dedication and volunteer efforts to our chapter, we won eight of nine categories for large chapters:

We also won another membership award for growing our chapter by 23% in 2003!

AzSAE Award of Excellence in "External Affairs"
The HSMAI Special Projects Committee was honored with the AzSAE Award of Excellence in "External Affairs" for the Santa's Summer Safety Splash which was held at the Scottsdale Summerfield Suites by Wyndham in August of 2004. The award was presented at the AzSAE holiday party on December 7th at the Sheraton San Marcos, where committee members were congratulated on their very successful event. AzSAE showed the audience a video describing the event highlights and hopes it will serve as inspiration to other associations.

Santa's Summer Safety Splash event assisted twenty-five homeless children, residing in a Salvation Army half way house, accumulate school supplies necessary to start back to school. This was a fun, educational event for the children where they learned water safety tips from the Rural Metro Fire Dept. The event was covered by Channel 10 Fox News and the Arizona Business Journal. The Special Project's Committee produced the event based entirely upon the participation of HSMAI volunteers, donations from members and caring community partners.
